Cardinal Radio is a streaming internet radio station created by students at Saginaw Valley State University. In order to access the stream/station you must be logged-in to the campus internet with your SVSU Username and Password. For shows that do not use copyrighted music, or are strictly talk related, we encourage podcasts so listeners everywhere can hear.
Due to the fact that we strictly only stream on campus, we are protected under the University’s blanket royalty coverage, therefore, we do not have to operate in accordance to the FCC. This frees Cardinal Radio up to do things that many other college stations can not do, such as longer blocks of music from the same artist and have shows that touch on topics that might not otherwise be allowed under restriction of the FCC.
We let the students come up with the content for their shows. Meaning, the students have full creative control over the type of show that they want to broadcast on Cardinal Radio.
When students are not doing live shows, we continue to stream 24/7 through our music database, SAM and Spotify. Our stream boasts close to 14,000 songs covering every genre under the sun.
No prior radio experience is needed and Cardinal Radio does not require students to have a certain major or minor to participate in the organization. Cardinal Radio is a station that is truly for the students and made by the students.
We have also put on prior events at SVSU. Most recently, we hosted a Battle of the Bands that raised $976 dollars for the Rainbow Connection- a Michigan non-profit that grants wishes for sick children.
Cardinal Radio also has the capabilities to DJ events on campus. We have previously worked with Greek Life, Dining Services, Program Board, Forever Red and Student Life (just to name a few) and DJed events for them. The money we charge for events goes towards the purchasing of equipment for the studio and promotional materials for the station.
We have weekly meetings every Monday night at 10pm in Curtiss 224.
